China has abundant natural gas resources, and in recent years, natural gas vehicles have developed rapidly. By the end of 2018, China's natural gas vehicle ownership reached 6.7 million units, an increase of 620,000 units, an increase of 10.20%, ranking first in the world for five consecutive years. Among the exhaust gas discharged from natural gas vehicles, the conventional pollutants are mainly NMHC, NOx and CO. The unconventional pollutants are mainly methane (CH4), of which CH4 accounts for more than 90% of the total HC. CH4 is the main greenhouse gas. China is also the largest producer and user of motorcycles, and the number of motorcycles is close to 50% of the world. By the end of 2018, the number of motorcycles in the country reached 87 million, an increase of 5 million from the 82 million in 2017, with a growth rate of 6%, ranking first in the world. From the characteristics of PM2.5 emission from exhaust gas, the PM2.5 particle size emitted by natural gas vehicles and motorcycles is less than <0.1μm, which is smaller than the particle size of PM2.5 emitted by diesel vehicles (0.3μm, H.Burtscher, Aerosol Science, 2005, 36, 896-932). The smaller the particle size of PM2.5, the greater the toxicity to the human body. Therefore, it is necessary to strictly control the pollutant emissions of natural gas vehicles and motorcycles.

Faced with the urgent need for motor vehicle pollution control, the national key research and development plan “Research on Causes and Control Technology of Air Pollution” has focused on pollution emission control technology and system research projects such as diesel vehicles, gasoline vehicles, alternative fuel vehicles and motorcycles. Among them, “Research on pollution emission control technology and system for alternative fuel vehicles and motorcycles” was undertaken by Sinocat Environmental Technology Co., Ltd., Sichuan University, Wuhan University of Technology, Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Co., Ltd., Weichai Power Co., Ltd., etc. More than 10 units participated in the research and development of new high-performance rare earth catalytic materials and high-efficiency stable catalysts for the development of alternative fuel vehicle country VI standards and national IV motorcycle standards, and the formation of reliable natural gas vehicles and Motorcycle pollution emission control post-processing system integration technology and promotion and application, supporting China's motor vehicle pollution reduction. After three years of operation, the project has made significant progress through the joint efforts of the participating units.

I. Representative results

1. Key basic catalytic materials break through high temperature stability

Breaking through the problem of high temperature stability of materials, it successfully developed high temperature and high specific surface alumina material technology and high thermal stability rare earth oxygen storage material technology necessary for meeting the pollution emission control catalysts of national VI natural gas vehicles and national IV motorcycles. Alumina material 1100 °C / 5 h, specific surface area of 111 m2 / g; rare earth oxygen storage material 1000 °C / 4 h, specific surface area of 52 m2 / g.

2. Motorcycle catalyst and aftertreatment system meets National IV emission standards and begins mass supply

   Based on the material technology that breaks through the high temperature stability, combined with the development of the special CZA composite functional materials, the use of precious metal precursor modulation, coating surfactant and layered segmentation technology has successfully developed to meet the national IV standard. Motorcycle catalyst. By October 2019, a total of 17 motorcycles had passed the test of the national professional testing organization, meeting the national IV standard.

3. Natural automotive catalysts and aftertreatment systems meet national VI emission standards and are supplied in bulk.

Based on the material technology that breaks through the high temperature stability, the national VI natural gas vehicle catalyst prepared by the two-solvent method, the reduction method and the multi-layer coating technology is compared with the international supplier catalyst, and the comprehensive performance is international. Leading level. It has matched 8 heavy-duty gas engines (accounting for more than 60%) and 36 light-duty vehicles. It has passed the national professional agency emission test at Tianjin Automobile Testing Center/Xiangyang Automobile Testing Center to meet the national VI standard. The product started to be in Beijing in October last year, and has loaded more than 400 units. The real-time test data shows that NOx emissions are stable. After the implementation of the National VI Regulation on July 1 this year, the product has begun to be supplied in large quantities.

Second, major technological innovations

Innovation point 1: Successfully researched and developed rare earth composite nano oxygen storage material technology composed of different kinds of rare earth nanocrystals and composite nano alumina material technology stabilized by rare earth and alkaline earth, which solved the high temperature stability of materials and similar to foreign countries. Compared with technology, material performance has reached the international advanced level.

Innovation point 2: Developed natural gas vehicle catalyst technology and motorcycle catalyst technology with low temperature and high activity, high durability, wide air-fuel ratio window and efficient coordinated conversion of various pollutants. The catalyst price is internationally leading.

Innovation point 3: Using integrated and integrated design, successfully developed a stable and reliable national VI natural gas engine and national IV motorcycle pollution emission control post-processing system. Through the thermal management technology, the catalyst technology application matching of various engines and motorcycles has been successfully realized, and the national professional standards have been tested to meet the national emission standards.

Third, the objective evaluation of the project

1. The National IV motorcycle catalyst researched by the project matched 17 motorcycles, and was approved by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the environmental protection information of the Ministry of Environmental Protection.

2. The national VI natural gas vehicle catalyst researched by the project is matched with 8 heavy-duty gas engines, more than 800 heavy-duty vehicles and 36 light-duty gas vehicles through the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the environmental protection information of the Ministry of Environmental Protection.

2. Published 28 scientific papers, including 21 articles in SCI

3. Apply for 22 invention patents, apply for 6 utility model patents, and have granted 4 patents.

4. Form 2 national standards and 2 industry standards

The results of the research and development of the “Research on Pollution Emission Control Technology and System for Alternative Fuel Vehicles and Motorcycles” bring economic and social benefits, and provide powerful support for the implementation of China’s motorcycle IV emission standards and natural gas vehicle VI emission standards. Technical support has successfully broken through the foreign technology blockade and product market monopoly, making China's alternative fuel vehicle and motorcycle after-treatment technology successfully rank among the international advanced, and detached from the dependence of product technology on imported foreign suppliers, effectively improving post-processing in China.
